GLIMPSE OF AMERICA

G.matta and 2501 in a car ride across America.
In collaboration with http://www.allcitycanvas.com

We are 2501 and G. Matta.

We work and travel together with people and everywhere to see things from new angles. Together we transform concepts and ideas into creative solutions, that we craft and think across every media.

The car ride will start on 15th of June until 23rd of July. It will touch Miami – Gainesville – Washington – Baltimore – Philadelphia – New York – Detroit – Chicago – Las Vegas – Los Angeles – Flagstaff – many National Parks and deserts.

Faced with a variety of dislocate temporalities and spaces that we called new «architecture of time» in the last two years with the ongoing “Nomadic Experiment “ project and G.Matta’s investigations , we thought about new forms of representation as well as new space-time analytical tools to tackle the framework within which people can have a glimpse on what is happening. We choose U.S.A. because American urban neighborhood and its natural environment are above all the backdrop of everyday life of their inhabitants but also a kind of larger and animated landscape. So we think here we can find a way to show and document those different and contradictory sides of the relationship between collective space and the life which flows through them, adapts to them, transforms or abandons them. According to the idea that murals are to a certain point temporary and so they are an experience rather than an object, ideas about spatiotemporal and dynamic visualization have spread through Neo Muralism as well as architecture. In this journey they will be identified, analyzed and realized in order to document them,

in a multidisciplinary environment where art and people have their positions. Even though we are examining Neo Muralism as a profoundly influential but still understudied phenomenon, a history that has yet to be written, we think the term ‘contemporary’ seems to shake off all historicism, and thus floats somewhere outside of historical determination, conceptual definition and critical judgment. As well as we think the power of this artistic discipline is that it’s against any forms of classification. It shies away from any temporal interpretation. The images, symbols and shapes could be sometime socially poignant, other time experimental, conceptual, graphical or a simply repetition of past model but they are always in a state of flux. It’s a practice in unstable balance between risk and control. When we look at it and into it, we are at the same time be very aware of both the limit and the power of movement across it. Artists, architects, thinkers and people must make an effort to think of city and land as a four-dimensional living organism or a labyrinth in which the individual will move both in time and in space. That’s basically why we decided to pass trough America on new ways, methods and tools for picturing worlds/surfaces/lands/cities in motion.
