Popular British travel blogger Benjamin Rich aka Bald and (morally) Bankrupt talked about “censorship on YouTube” – RU

A very rough translation of the mangled Russian language, but it reflects how Benjamin spreads Kremlin propaganda:

Q: Why did you write in your channel comments that Putin is crazy?
A: Two reasons. The first is that the information media have constantly provided information against Russia and against the Russian President. This, of course, influenced me, because that is all I heard. And when I was in Ukraine, it was very early on and I did not understand why this was happening, what the reasons were, why the war. And so, I said what I said and maybe I thought so at the time. The second reason is that maybe you will not understand me. If you want to make money on Youtube, you have to say what others want to hear. If you don’t do that, you are in serious trouble. I needed to write like that so I wouldn’t have problems with Youtube. I simply did not want problems. If I said the opposite, you have no idea how much trouble that would cause me. Problems means a lot of threats from people. Every day. Because it’s Russia, because you can’t film here, and I’m a bit scared. I might be met on the street by somebody. Ukrainians or others. It is a lot of pressure. I have to say something sometimes to avoid being threatened, if you know what I mean. I’m a little bit stupid.
The special operation has been 4-5 months. I have had more time to get more information about why Russia did this, why they made this decision. In the first days I didn’t understand – oh, immediately war. But now I have read, I have learnt a lot from different places and I have understood that it is necessary to clear this area of fascists, so to speak.

Q: Were there any instructions from Youtube to explain the situation in Ukraine?
A: Yes, I and other YouTubers received emails saying that the situation could only be told from the Ukrainian side. It is not allowed to show the Dombas side or the Russian side’s opinion on it. If you do, your channel will have money problems and you will not be able to advertise because it is banned. It was, in principle, like that. It was probably, I don’t remember, I don’t want to be wrong, but it was probably early. In the simplest terms they said that you can’t say positive things about the situation. For example, if I said that, of course, a special operation had to be carried out because there were a lot of fascists in Ukraine, that would not be allowed.

Q: There is no freedom of speech on Youtube?
A: Of course there is not. Absolutely not. And this should not be new information for you.

Q: Why did you share a link on your channel to raise money for Ukraine?
A: The Ukrainian consulate in London emailed me. At first, I didn’t say anything back. Then they asked me again, Benedict, if you could share it. Then I thought, why not. A lot of people also started asking why I was not helping to raise money for Ukraine. People pointed out that other people do a lot for Ukraine. I thought, okay, because it will be good for me.

Q: Have you been to Dombas? What did people say there?
A: I came across people who were my age or older, Soviet people, like taxi drivers or cashiers. They were, in principle, not happy with the situation in Ukraine. A typical situation. I was in Bakhmut (Artyomovsk). I was talking to a taxi driver about the name of the town. He said that it used to be called Artyomovsk. He explained “It was a nice name, but now it should be called Bakhmut. I can’t tell you who told me that I must (call it by the new name), but you will understand”. And then I realised it was the Azov Battalion or whatever. These were typical situations. In principle, they felt that they were Russians and they were much more comfortable with the Russian world than the Ukrainian world. I have met a lot of people in eastern Ukraine who are unhappy about what happened with Yanukovych, because he was their president and then came the ‘revolution’, you know? Where is our President? Because the people of the West did not want him. They were annoyed in the east and they were not happy in Ukraine after what happened.
