Uzbekistan – Along the Silk Road

DEUTSCH

(source Wikipedia)

ENGLISH

In July 2014 I decided to travel for 3 weeks in Uzbekistan and to portrait the region by shooting photos and time-lapse videos. The region is very interesting as it lies along the silk road. Unfortunately it was most of the time very hot with temperatures around 40 degrees. This only allowed to take photos in the early morning and in the evenings. The islamic buildings are architectural jewels and the details are amazing. The film starts in Tashkent and then the voyage continues to Samarqand, Bukhara and the desert city of Khiva. The people were very friendly but the trip was very tiring as I was travelling with 30 kg of luggage.

Some information about Samarkand

The city is famous for its central position on the Silk Road between China and the West, and for being an Islamic centre for scholarly study. In the 14th century it became the capital of the empire of Timur (Tamerlane) and is the site of his mausoleum (the Gur-e Amir). The Bibi-Khanym Mosque (a modern replica) remains one of the city’s most notable landmarks. The amazing Registan was the ancient center of the city. (source Wikipedia)
