Osimhen yet to travel before Nigeria’s AFCON semi-final due to abdominal pain

Victor Osimhen has not travelled with the Nigeria squad ahead of their Africa Cup of Nations semi-final against South Africa due to abdominal discomfort.

Nigeria say the forward will be assessed by the medical team with a view to joining up with the squad on Tuesday.

The Nigeria squad flew to Bouake on Monday ahead of Wednesday’s semi-final, but Osimhen stayed behind in the Ivory Coast’s capital Abidjan with members of the medical team.

A Nigeria statement read: “Members of the team traveled from Abidjan to Bouaké today via a 10pm Air Cote D’Ivoire flight. Osimhen did not however make the trip as a result of an abdominal discomfort.

“Team medics confirmed that he has been placed under close watch with a member of the medical team staying behind in Abidjan with him. If cleared by tomorrow morning, he will join the rest of the squad before 5pm.”

Osimhen has scored once in five appearances at AFCON, levelling the scores in his side’s group stage opener against Equatorial Guinea.

The winner of Wednesday’s semi-final between Nigeria and South Africa will face either Ivory Coast or DR Congo in the final.

Nigeria are attempting to win the competition for the first time since 2013.
